Taste the Nation’s Best at Cheese Champion Event in Green Bay on March 9

MADISON, WI – Taste more than 40 of the nation’s finest cheeses at Cheese Champion, an evening reception set for Thursday, March 9 at the KI Convention Center in downtown Green Bay, Wisconsin.

This event promises not only taste sensations, but also great anticipation, as the best cheese in the country will be named for the first time following the U.S. Championship Cheese Contest, held March 7 & 8, also in Green Bay.

“Thousands of cheeses will be evaluated, but only one can win the top honor,” said Kirsten Henning, Events Manager for the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association, the host organization.  “With some of the most respected and successful cheesemakers in the nation on hand to hear the big announcement, there’s no doubt you’ll feel the excitement in the room.”

A limited number of tickets to Cheese Champion can be purchased at www.uschampioncheese.org, and organizers expect them to sell quickly.  Lucky ticket-holders will enjoy a diverse array of the contest’s best entries, along with expertly-paired craft brews from local artisans.  Pairings include cheese from Carr Valley Cheese, Cedar Grove Cheese, Organic Valley, Renard’s Cheese, and Widmer’s Cheese Cellars, along with beers from Badger State Brewing Company, Hinterland Brewery, Pigeon River Brewing Company, Stillmank Brewing Company, and Titletown Brewing Company.

Cheese Champion also features the expertise of contest judges, ready to guide attendees’ sampling experiences.  Judges will offer cheese cutting and tasting tips, and discuss the art of grading the appearance, flavor, body, and texture of entries from the nation’s largest cheese competition.

“No matter your palate, Cheese Champion is sure to offer something that will ‘wow’ you,” said Henning.  “Come taste the best, learn a bit about cheese, and toast the new U.S. Champion Cheese.”
