Description: The primary responsibilities of the Distribution Support Lead include material handling and coaching and directing the Distribution Team Members on their respective shifts. The Support Lead will primarily be material handling while overseeing their team to satisfy our customers’ needs safely and efficiently through the distribution of finished goods based on customer specifications, quality, and schedule requirements. Support Leads are expected to be an example of high-quality workmanship and commitment to excellence through the support of a continuous improvement and customer focused culture. This position works Saturday, Sunday, Monday, 6am to 6pm.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Fulfills the roles and responsibilities of a Material Handler.
- Develops, trains, and motivates Team Members on the standards of their positions and their performance including position responsibilities, Safety Culture, quality, performance, and productivity metrics.
- Leads, coordinates, and directs the efforts of a team of Material Handlers in daily activities to meet safety and production goals.
- Serves as an example and coaches Team Members in all areas of performance, including attendance.
- Collaborates with Distribution Team Leader in determining staffing levels through the timekeeping system and approving time off.
- Functions as a Shipping Coordinator for off-shift shipments.
- Manages the performance of the Material Handler team, including coaching Team Members when standards are not achieved and delivering effective Team Member performance reviews.
- Participate in Root Cause problem solving and recommend Corrective/Preventative Actions.
- Collaborates with the Team Leader, Logistics Manager, and QA Team regarding compliance to all product specifications, including trailer inspection audits, investigation and resolution of customer complaints and product return procedures.
- Completes all documentation associated with essential job functions.
- Communicates process challenges and production changes with distribution Team members.
- Communicates changes in customer specifications and ensures compliance with the standard.
- Participate as a member of HACCP, Food Defense and Safety teams.
- Maintaining a safe and clean warehouse by using methods and techniques for cleaning and auditing. (5S)
- Complies with all company policies, procedures, and programs, including Safety, Quality, HACCP and GMP’s.
- Immediately reports any food safety or quality issues to management or other individuals authorized to initiate action.
DIRECT REPORTS
Leads a small team of Material Handlers.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of distribution processes, including receiving, storage, material flow, and shipping materials for maximizing effective distribution of cheese.
- Basic understanding of lean principles and process improvement.
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office and JD Edwards or other ERP system.
- Leadership skills with the demonstrated ability to lead by example, motivate, direct and coordinate Team Members.
- Decision making skills to make timely and informed decisions on off shifts.
- Communication skills to convey information and expectations to the team.
- Organizational skills to keep the team organized, ensure processes are following and documentation is maintained.
- Ability to be flexible and open to change and helping the team adapt to new circumstances.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Internally trained and certified to operate forklifts.

While performing the duties of this job, and supporting other positions in the department, the Team Member is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The Team Member is required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The Team Member is occasionally required to stoop, or crouch. The Team Member must frequently lift and/or move blocks or wheels of cheese weighing 20 to 50 pounds and boxes of dried cheese weighing up to 50 pounds. Blocks or wheels of cheese are carried from pallets to a conveyor staging area about 30" high. The Team Member is occasionally required to lift forming tubes and film rolls weighing up to 100 lbs. The Team Member must frequently lift and/or move boxes of product from 20 to 50 pounds and stack onto pallets up to 60" above the floor and frequently place/carry bags of cheese weighing 5 to 25 pounds from a turntable to cheese boxes, both 30" above the floor. Pallets weighing up to 60 pounds must be stacked up to 5 feet high. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member will be exposed to extreme, non-weather related cold as well as wet and/or humid conditions. On a typical workday, the Team Member will work in refrigerated conditions with temperatures ranging from 35-50 degrees. The Team Member will be working around safeguarded machinery with rotating, mechanical parts and conveyor belts as well as be expected to lift to 40lbs.
TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED
While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member may be required to work with
motorized pallet trucks, hand dollies, stretch wrap machines, hand knives, hand tools, calculators, and data collection devices.
PPE’s REQUIRED
Personal protective equipment that is required when working with hazardous materials or loud equipment includes: safety goggles, rubber or latex gloves, lab coat and hearing protection. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalency (ex: GED), required.
2-3 years of food manufacturing experience, preferably Distribution, highly desirable.
