SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Finance Manger, the Cost Accountant performs a variety of accounting functions and analysis related to standard and actual costs, manufacturing variances, inventory valuation according to GAAP, coordination of annual inventory observation, accounting for obsolete and over age inventory and for reviewing the efficiency and effectiveness of the cost accounting process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Develops, maintains, and troubleshoots for standard costs for converted products, ingredients, and packaging which includes landed cost and freight components
  • Develops, maintains, and troubleshoots actual costs for cheese make ensuring necessary cost inputs are entered timely and accurately. Completes monthly standard cost roll and analyzes cost changes in accordance with changing markets 2 days after close
  • Monitors, analyzes, and reports all manufacturing & price purchase variances weekly and monthly, working with production facilities to understand the reason for the variances. Reporting entails putting together detailed analysis to explain weekly and monthly manufacturing variances
  • Closes work orders and reviews them for accuracy and helps train plant Team Members on work order procedures and processes
  • Review and Reconcile the Integrity and WIP Reports
  • Analyzes work order variances and reports work order material variance by identified category weekly and monthly
  • Prepares monthly productivity reports and posts to the portal
  • Functional responsibility for PCM approval / PCM completion as needed to verify changes after evaluation of the cost effect of the requested change
  • Functional responsibility on Item Setup team to review and understand proposed new items. Set up and develop cost records for all new inventory items and validate GL master and category codes to ensure proper function and costing.
  • Send monthly summary of PCM completions to the finance team
  • Complete journal entries within 4 working days. Month end work includes, but is not limited to:
  • Inventory reconciliation with GL, Inventory Reserve for overage, re-direct starter, and packaging and other JE and reconciliations as needed
  • Prepares monthly reports related to financial close, including, but not limited to: Inventory Metrics, As-of report, ensuring integrity of the inventory database, Inventory Reserve, and GL account reconciliations
  • Works with Disposition team to identify and account for obsolete and over age inventory
  • Monitors inventory reports for anomalies in negative quantities, cost per unit, overage cheese, and improper locations
  • Spends time in the manufacturing facilities to observe changes in production layouts, process, and labor requirements to assist in proper accounting for product costs. Works cross functionally to understand drivers of cost changes and can communicate back to the business the financial impact of proposed changes
  • Partner with procurement, receiving, and shared services to ensure that transactional processes do not drive inaccuracies in costing. Ensures integrity of BOM, routers, overhead rates, scrap rates, cost components, and cost records for product costing, including periodic audits
  • Provides inventory reporting for the NMTC and annual insurance renewal process
  • Lead audit for all cost accounting components, including coordinating physical inventory observation with external audit team
  • Prepares annual summary for reconciliation between aging warehouse inventory and internal inventory
  • Supports the budget & forecast process by providing item costs based on agreed on market assumptions
  • Update weekly block market index and maintain landed costs
  • Develop test parameters and perform data testing prior to system upgrades and/or to support cross functional projects
  • Supports Help Desk requests, where applicable, to determine the best course of action or if additional training is required instead will perform that training
  • Take the initiative to continually evaluate opportunities within the role and use Hubble and Excel to automate tasks
  • Ad hoc cost analysis as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Demonstrated knowledge of ERP systems – BOM, Routers, Manufacturing, Standard costs, landed costs, Applied OH’s
  • Excellent computer skills to include proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook

While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member will be expected to travel as needed to company manufacturing facilities and public warehouses. Periodic weekend or evening work is required. The Team Member may have to observe processes and take inventory in coolers that are 40 – 50 degrees.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 3 + years of experience in Cost Accounting in a manufacturing environment required
  • Knowledge of JDE is preferred.
  • Experience with integrated ERP system and Report Writer preferred
