WCMA Statement on USDA Announcement of $263 Million Food Purchasing to Support U.S. Producers

On Thursday, February 19, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced plans to purchase $263 million in American commodities, including dairy products. WCMA Senior Director of Programs & Policy Rebekah Sweeney issued the following statement:

"This is good news for American dairy processors, their farmer partners, and their communities. By directing $148 million in dairy products like milk, butter, and cheese to hunger relief programs, USDA is both strengthening the nation’s nutrition safety net and providing important stability for American dairy businesses. WCMA is pleased to see this announcement, and we thank USDA for this commitment to America's dairy industry."
